The Feisty Matador

If you’re like me, that means you’re holding onto summer for as long as you possibly can, but you’re also torn. You love fall, too! This was the situation I was in last weekend when trying to decide what I was in the mood to drink. I wanted something with a summery flavor, but that wasn’t too fruity and had just a little bite to it to welcome in the cooler weather.

Also, if I’m honest, Josh was begging me to make a spicy drink again since he was such a big fan of the Hot Blooded cocktail I launched this bad boy blog with. What I landed with was my take on the traditional Matador cocktail involving pineapple, jalapeno, and some other goodies.


The result was just what I was hoping for. The tropical blend of pineapple and citrus met with the heat of the jalapeno and the cool refreshing flavor of cilantro was exactly what my taste buds were in the mood for. And thus, the Feisty Matador was born.



  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 2 oz pineapple juice
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • Agave nectar
  • Fresh cilantro – 4-6 leaves
  • 1 small jalapeno

In the bottom of a cocktail shaker, muddle the cilantro, lime juice and a slice of jalapeno about 1/4 inch thick with the seeds removed. Add ice, tequila, pineapple juice and a quick squeeze of agave nectar (don’t over-do). Shake well. At this point, if you want a bit more kick to your drink, feel free to add another slice of jalapeno, this time with the seeds included. Shake 1-3 times and that’s it!! That’s seriously all it takes, or your mouth will probably be less pineappley and more on fire. Pour over ice and enjoy!
