If you haven’t figured it out by now, my drink preferences fluctuate a lot with the weather… and since it’s FINALLY starting to feel warm outside, that made choosing this week’s recipe easy. I’ve been hearing a lot of excited buzz lately about the fact that it’s “Shandy Season!” Now, for most people, this means Leinie’s version. For me, that means it’s time to make my own!!! While shandies are traditionally made with lemonade, that doesn’t mean we are limited to lemonade. I’ve been on a grapefruit kick lately so… voila:
12 oz Masala Mama IPA from Town Hall Brewery
1/2 cup freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
Dash of orange bitters
Take a chilled glass, and add a dash of the orange bitters to the bottom. Pour in your beer and top with grapefruit juice. For extra fun, since Town Hall is my favorite local micro brewery, I served it up in the MN version of my custom state pint glasses. Order one for your home state here!
That’s it! SUPER simple because when the weather is nice, I’d rather be sitting and enjoying my drink than spending a ton of time making it. For your beer selection, feel free to use whatever lighter flavor you like. I opted for my favorite locally brewed IPA from Town Hall Brewery, but you could also use a wheat beer or nice blonde ale if you preferred. Now get off the internet and go have a shandy out of doors!
